At Hill Valley Academy we understand the importance of extracurricular activities in our students’ development. These activities complement our strong curriculum by nurturing our students’ strengths and personal interests, as well as giving them the opportunities to discover and develop new skills.

Our activities are driven by our four school universal values of ILM (Knowledge) SADAKA (Charity), SALAM (Peace) and HAQ (Truth)

As a school, we aim to make our students’ learning experiences extend outside of the classroom and school walls. To grow into healthy, successful, and well-rounded adults, children must be given opportunities to discover and explore a wide range of activities that are not classroom based. Being involved in extra-curricular activities develops useful social skills that students will need to function successfully as adults in their chosen careers in the future.

Some of the extracurricular activities undertaken include:

Field Trips to:

  • The Sierra Leone National Library
  • The History Department at Fourah Bay College FBC. University of Sierra Leone
  • The Sierra Leone Peace Museum
  • The Victoria Park playground
  • The Sierra Leone National Museum
  • The Peninsular Environmental Center

Charity and Outreach Programs:

  • Visit to the Deaf School to deliver charitable donations raised by the school (Global Citizenship students)
  • Bake Sale organized by Secondary students for victims of a fire disaster in a Goderich slum community close to the school.
  • Clothing Drive for victims of the Goderich fire disaster.
  • Visit to the victims of the Susan’s Bay fire disaster area (Global Citizenship students)
  • Environmental cleanup exercise at Levuma Beach
  • Visit to the Hill Valley Islamic School to deliver charitable donations (Class Reps and Student Council)

School Competitions:

  • National Public speaking for girls Competition
  • National private Inter-School Spelling Bee competition
  • Inter school drama competition
  • Inter-house debate competition
  • Inter-house Essay competition
  • Inter-school football competition
  • Inter-House Sports Competitions

Performances:

  • The Day of the African Child cultural performances by all students.
  • A visit and performance by Usifu Jalloh aka the Cow foot Prince– Storyteller and drummer.
  • Performances by The Suitcase drama group

Special Guest Speakers

  • A talk by eminent History Professor Joe A. D Alie
  • A talk by female gender expert and entrepreneur - Madam Nasau Fofanah
  • A talk by female social and community work expert and activist - Madam Safiatu Tunis
  • A talk by a female Gynecologist - Dr. Frances Wurie-Sesay
  • A talk by Media personalities Phoebian Swill, Samuel Wise Bangura
  • A visit by Author, Mrs. Jacqueline Leigh
  • A talk by Author, Mrs. Joyce Wilson
  • A talk by Patriotic Advocacy Network (PAN)

Sporting Activities:

  • Sports Day
  • Interhouse basketball and football competitions for male and females
  • Football training for boys-juniors and seniors on Saturday
  • HVA football teams participating in local competitions
